Second Grade

I have taught Kindergarten, first grade and now have found my happy place in second grade. I love the children and families at Lincoln Academy. The parental support here is unparalleled!

I was born and raised in Colonia Dublan, Chihuahua, Mexico. I’m grateful for the experiences I had while growing up there. I love the culture, people, FOOD and language of Mexico.

After graduating from Brigham Young University in l985 with a degree in Elementary Education, I accepted a teaching position in Phoenix, Arizona teaching first grade. It was there that I developed my love of teaching. I loved bringing light and joy into the lives of the little children I taught there. Teaching at an inner city school, I was able to teach many children to read in their native Spanish language while they were learning to speak English. I taught there for seven years and never had a room mom or a business partner! It makes me appreciate them so much. It was during those years that I met my husband and had my first child. My husband and I now have five children, four girls and one boy.

A big part of my life is being creative. I have always loved crafting and “DIY”ing. I love creating a warm and inviting classroom for my students. I am always thinking of creative ways to teach my students and make learning fun for them! I also love gardening and using my homegrown flowers in bouquets. I enjoy hiking, reading and creating delicious meals for my family.

As I start my 16th year at Lincoln, I look forward to bringing my love of teaching to a new group of second graders. I believe every child is important and that learning can be fun! There are so many wonderful things to learn in 2nd grade and at this age, students are so eager to learn that it makes my job enjoyable!
